Yuya is a Mexican beauty vlogger who is best known for her makeup videos and vlogs on her eponymous YouTube channel. She also has two more YouTube channels titled yuyacst and Punto y Aparte, although she is not active on either. Outside of YouTube, she is active on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter (now X). She has also launched a perfume, a makeup collection, and a couple books.

Career

At the age of 16, Yuya entered and won a make-up video contest on YouTube, following which she created her own channel named lady16makeup (which was later renamed to Yuya) in September 2009. The first video on the channel, peinados faciles y lindos (easy hairstyles that are cute), was uploaded in July 2010. Since then, she has continued to make videos on a vast range of topics including practical tips (5 hairstyles for work or school) to relationship advice (Have they been unfaithful?). While she was not successful overnight, she gradually built a loyal fan base. By 2015, she had become the second most-subscribed YouTube star in Mexico after Gabriel Montiel, aka "Werevertumorro” and the top Mexican YouTuber in terms of earnings.

As she gained popularity, she was featured in the Mexican edition of fashion magazine Vogue. She also appeared in music videos and as a guest on television shows. She was nominated as MTV's Digital Millenial Icon of the Year in 2013 and 2014, but lost to Gabriel Montiel and Chilean Germán Garmendia, respectively. She published her first book, Los secretos de Yuya, in 2015, followed by another book, Las confesiones de Yuya, the next year. In March 2016, she was one of seven female YouTube creators who joined the United Nations' Sustainable Development Action Campaign, aiming to "achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls". For promoting benefit campaigns for the Spanish-speaking community, she was awarded a star on the Walk of Stars in Las Vegas, Nevada. She also released a perfume called #True in July 2015 and a makeup collection in October 2017. However, she courted controversy following the launch of her makeup line for using designs by artisans from the community of Tenango de Doria without giving proper credits, for which she was also threatened with a lawsuit.

Family Life

Yuya was born as Mariand Castrejón Castañeda to parents Maribel and Andrés. Her name is actually a combination of her parents’ names. She has a brother named Sergio, who also has a YouTube channel. Her nickname Yuya was given to her by her uncle and is inspired by the Mexican TV character Yuya, la gorda.

She was previously in a relationship with fellow YouTuber Beto Pasillas, but they broke up in June 2019. She started dating Mexican rock singer Jorge Siddhartha González Ibarra, known professionally as Siddhartha, in August 2019. She announced her pregnancy with their first child via Instagram on June 12, 2021 and later vlogged about her experience with pregnancy on her YouTube channel. Their son, named Mar, was born on September 29, 2021.
