Simon Lane, also known by his in-game username Honeydew, is a gaming content creator who, along with his friend Lewis Brindley, is a founding member of the popular YouTube comedy gaming channel The Yogscast as well as the co-host of the YoGPoD podcast. The incorporated company has now become a multi-channel network for affiliated content creators who produce gaming-related videos on YouTube and Twitch, apart from publishing video games and hosting charity initiatives like the Yogscast Jingle Jam.

Early Life

Simon Lane wanted to be an astronaut and studied astrophysics at Cardiff University, but "narrowly failed" to complete his course.

Career

Shortly before 2008, Simon Lane started playing the MMO game World of Warcraft (WoW), where he met Lewis Brindley and many other founding members of The Yogscast (including Hannah Rutherford, Duncan Jones, Yohi, Vyrian and Pierson). The group was founded by Simon and Lewis in July 2008 with the creation of the YouTube channel BlueXephos (which later became YOGSCAST Lewis & Simon and is now called The Yogscast). They initially started recording iTunes podcasts and YouTube video guides on WoW from their own homes before being joined by friends from their guild. The name Yogscast was derived from their WoW guild name “Ye Olde Goone Squade”, which itself originated from the forum community of “Something Awful”.

The group joined the multi-channel network TheGameStation, a sub-network of Maker Studios, in August 2010. In December that year, they recorded the Minecraft video series Shadow of Israphel, which was a huge success. He and Lewis officially incorporated The Yogscast as a registered company in May 2011. They created a second channel called yogscast2 that same month for extra stuff like yogtrailers (dubbed-over trailers), but later Hannah started uploading her gameplay videos on it and renamed it to Yogscast Hannah (now Lomadiah). Their main channel became UK’s biggest YouTube channel with over one million subscribers in October 2011.

Simon and Lewis started their official podcast, The YoGPoD, on February 2, 2009, with the first episode, Snowcast. It was intended to be a follow-on of their early WoW “how to” videos. While the podcasts were originally released on iTunes, the backlog of their early episodes was uploaded on the YouTube channel currently known as Triforce! in July 2014. On The Yogscast channel, Simon is primarily known for two types of content: Simon Plays, consisting of gameplay videos, and Simon Sings, brief musical interludes where he does his best vocal impersonation of a cat being used to clean a rug. Simon took a hiatus from Yogscast in March 2015 due to unspecified medical issues, but returned in September. He had limited involvement in various series on the channel throughout 2016 and took another hiatus in March 2017. Since his return in June, he has been primarily appearing on Simon's Peculiar Portions Podcast, his personal channel Honeydew Live, and his twitch channel.

Family Life

Simon Charles Lane once mentioned his father’s name to be Alan, although it is uncertain if he was serious or joking.
