Rebecca Rogers is an American social media star and former teacher who rose to fame on TikTok after joining the platform to bond with her students and keep them entertained. She used to make funny skits about her teaching life and her students, but now creates all types of content since quitting her teaching job due to conflict with school administration.
Early Life
Rebecca Rogers attended Meredith College in 2014-18 and obtained her B.A. degree in History from there. She also has an educational licensure in social studies education. While studying, she worked as a waitress at a Ruckus Pizza, Pasta & Spirits outlet in Cary, North Carolina. After completing her graduation, she began working as a high school social studies teacher in the Wake County Public School System, but eventually left it three years later in September 2021. She was inspired to become a teacher by her high school history teacher.
Career
Like most others, Rebecca Rogers’ school was shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020 and later opened virtually. At the time, she suddenly found herself with a Zoom room full of hard-to-entertain high school students and attempted different ways to bond with them. She tried sports, watching anime that she knew they were watching. She eventually turned to TikTok, which was the one thing all of her students were interested in.
She joined social media in October 2020 and started making videos about funny things her students said or awkward situations they got themselves into. She was surprised to find that it was not just her students who watched her videos; her videos often went viral and were watched by millions of people who started to flock around to increase her fan base. She joined YouTube in March 2021 and started cross-posting her videos as YouTube Shorts. She was able to find similar success there and added over 100k subscribers each month.
Although her school was aware of her making social media content and was initially fine with it, the situation soon changed as she was told that she could not monetize her content. When she revealed she was not monetized, she was accused of lying because the administrators saw ads on her videos, and she was given the option to choose between creating content or teaching. She eventually decided to quit teaching in late 2021, and later revealed the background information through the video Why I Quit Teaching on her channel in November 2022. She also changed her content because her values told her that she should not be telling teachers what they should or should not be doing as she was no longer a teacher. However, she is interested in teaching about different cultures and different places of the world through her content.
Family Life
Rebecca Rogers’ grandfather was a Holocaust survivor. She married an attorney in May 2019. She wanted her husband to join her fulltime and has tried to feature him in her content, but he hates the process.
