Ingrid Nilsen is an American social media personality best known for her self-titled Youtube channel. While initially, her content was around vlogs, beauty content, and lifestyle videos, she later took on serious subjects such as LGBTQ+ issues, mental health, and gender equality which made her extremely popular. Also an entrepreneur, she is the co-founder of the candle brand, ‘The New Savant.’

Career

Ingrid Nilsen started out on Youtube in October 2009. Her content mostly revolved around makeup and fashion where she gave beauty tips, shared routines, and reviewed different makeup products. In 2014, she became the first Youtube creator to represent the cosmetics brand, CoverGirl. The same year, she appeared as a judge on the reality show ‘Project Runway: Threads’ and also won the ‘Streamy Award’ for ‘Best Beauty Program.’

In the years that came, she began touching on more serious topics such as mental health, periods, and areas related to LGBTQ+. In 2016, she came to interview former United States President Barack Obama and asked him questions related to terrorism, discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community, and the taxing of feminine hygiene products. That same year, she became one of the United Nations Change Ambassadors to promote gender equality. Her constant effort to raise awareness about gender equality earned her the ‘Trevor Digital Innovator Award.’

In 2017, she was invited by bareMinerals, a popular beauty brand, to represent two of their best-selling foundations. While still at the peak of her internet fame, Ingrid Nilsen decided to quit Youtube in 2020. She posted a farewell video titled “This One Is For You (My Last Video)” where she thanked her fans who were a part of her journey. Nevertheless, she still has over 3.4 million subscribers on her channel. On Instagram, she has amassed 1.1 million followers and has over 977k followers on Twitter.

Personal Life

Ingrid Nilsen’s father is Norwegian while her mother is Thai. She came out as a lesbian in June 2015 in one of her Youtube videos. The same year, she started dating fellow social media star, Hannah Hart. However, the couple parted ways in 2016. She is currently in a relationship with Erica Anderson.

Trivia

In 2016, she, along with Do Something, and U by Kotex launched the famous period product drive, ‘Power To The Period.’

She also ran the campaign #TheirStory (in partnership with ‘It Gets Better’) which encouraged the members of the LGBTQ+ community to share stories about inspiring people.
