Dr Lupo is the online alias of American streamer Benjamin Lupo particularly known for hosting charity streams in association with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, for which he raised over $13 million between 2018 and 2022. While he previously had an exclusivity deal with Twitch for a year-and-a-half, he has been streaming on YouTube Gaming since 2021. He has also played professionally for the esports team Rogue.
Early Life
Dr Lupo has been playing video games since he was a child and also won an NBA Jam playing on SNES. After completing his education, he started working as a systems engineer for an insurance company in his hometown.
Career
Dr Lupo had initially started streaming on Twitch in 2013 to kill boredom. He had also joined YouTube the same year, although his earliest video on that platform was from June 2015. Early on, he streamed the FPS game Destiny, but later switched to battle royale games like H1Z1. His channel grew rapidly after he started playing Fortnite, often with fellow streamers Ninja, Myth, and TimTheTatman. He even quit his job in 2017 to become a fulltime streamer. While operating the Quadcrasher, he amassed a record 65,004,100 vehicle trick points on October 20, 2018 in Fortnite. Starting in 2020, he had "an absolute blast" playing Escape from Tarkov, and also played games like Fall Guys and Among Us.
He has been known for hosting charity streams in association with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and has been hosting a 24-hour live stream each December since 2018. He raised $600,000 for the hospital in 2018 and $2.3 million the following year, totaling well over $13 million through a combination of group and personal charity streams until 2022, when he streamed from on-site at St. Jude Hospital. Furthermore, he participated in the Among Us stream for “the get out the vote” event along with streamers like Pokimane, Disguised Toast, and Myth, as well as politicians like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar.
Exclusivity Deal
Dr Lupo, who was accepted into the Twitch partner program in 2016, signed an exclusivity deal with the platform in December 2019. However, on August 30, 2021, he officially announced leaving Twitch in favor of YouTube Gaming, which he believed will help him in expanding his brand through other entertainment initiatives. He also hinted at making more pre-recorded content, which would allow him to spend more time with his young son. Without disclosing the terms of his exclusive deal, he had termed it a life-changing proposition, which he reiterated the following years and most recently re-signed with YouTube for another year in September 2023.
Family Life
Dr Lupo was born as Benjamin Lupo. Since August 2010, he has been married to a woman named Samantha aka MrsDrLupo, who manages his professional gaming career. They have a son named Charlie (born on August 12, 2015) who frequently appears on his YouTube videos. Nevertheless, he regrets not spending enough time with Charlie and plans to retire by the age of 40.
